Upstate Tour Stop Is Set

The 2008 New Ideas for a New Carolina Business Idea Competition is once again making the rounds in South Carolina with the "Tour de Bulb", a four-city tour of the state in which last year's winners will pass the torch of creativity and business innovation to other South Carolina citizens.

Spartanburg, SC

  • When: Monday, November 17, 2008 at 10am
  • Who: Area business leaders will speak to encourage residents to submit their ideas:
    Mayor William Barnet
    John Warner, CEO of Jute Networks LLC and manager of the Swamp Fox Community
    Ron Fulbright, Former New Ideas Winner and Spartanburg resident
    Darrell F. Parker, Dean of Johnson College of Business and Economics, USC Upstate
    2007 Winner James Poch and his Plug-In Hybrid vehicle will be on hand for demos of the vehicle.
  • Chapman Cultural Center
    200 East St John Street, Spartanburg

Two Tour Stops Are Set

Columbia, SC

  • When: Monday, October 20, 2008 at Noon
  • Who: Mayor Robert Coble will attend and speak, joined by local business leaders carrying the "light bulb torch."
    2008 Winner and Columbia resident Shaun Abraham will also attend and speak.
    2007 Winner James Poch and his Plug-In Hybrid vehicle will be on hand for demos of the vehicle.
  • Where: Columbia Visitors' Center
    1101 Lincoln Street, Columbia

Charleston, SC

  • When: Monday, October 27, 2008 at 10:30 a.m
  • Who: North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey (confirm) will attend and speak, joined by local business leaders, including Bobby Pearce of Nelson Mullins Riley and Scarborough, carrying the "light bulb torch." 2008 Winner and Columbia resident Shaun Abraham will also attend and speak.
    2007 Winner James Poch and his Plug-In Hybrid vehicle will be on hand for demos of the vehicle.
  • Where: North Charleston Waterfront Park

What's the Tour de Bulb?

The Tour de Bulb will tour South Carolina and some of last year's winners will be there to pass the torch of creativity and business innovation to other South Carolina citizens. Local celebrities, business leaders, politicians and 2008 winners will carry the "light bulb torch" and may be transported by an official Plug-In Hybrid vehicle through your main city streets.
